Kathmandu, Mar. 14: Six different public concern organizations including the Federation of Water and Energy Consumers-Nepal have asked the government to dissolve the Mahakali Treaty as it was not implemented even eleven years after it was singned. On the occasion of international dam concern day, handing over a memorandum to Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, Nepal Policy Organization, National Concern Society, and Arun Concern Society asked the government not to forward any understanding that were signed following the establishment of Loktantra.

"The government should not forward hydropower project like West Seti, Upper Karnali and Arun-III. The understanding between the GMR and Nepal government should be dissolved rather than implement it, they argued saying that it was not recommended by the people elected representatives.

The government had decided to complete Upper Karnali and Arun-III with the initiatives of GMR and West Seti with Snow Mountains Engineers Corporations (SMEC) recently.

Objecting to the construction of dams along Nepal-India border by Indian government under the Inter-Linking of Rivers Project, they asked the government to express their official opinion as soon as possible.
