Kathmandu, September 7:
Water Resources Minister Bishnu Poudel today said Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ would discuss Koshi barrage and other issues pertaining to water resources with India during his five-day visit to New Delhi next week. Addressing an interaction at the Reporters' Club, Minister Poudel said the Prime Minister would lay special emphasis on the reconstruction of the Koshi embankments.
Poudel, however, said the government was yet to finalise the agenda to be taken up during the Prime Minister's first political visit from September 14 to 19. The Minister said discussion would focus on harnessing water resources to ensure maximum advantage to both the countries. He said consultations were underway for the construction of the Koshi high dam. Poudel said the government would make transparent decisions on issues related to water resources. The government would seek foreign direct investment in mega hydro-electricity projects, he added.
The government itself will invest in medium projects and public money would be raised for small projects, according to Poudel. The priority would be to generate hydropower to the maximum possible extent, he said. The government is focusing on re-building the breached embankments, he added.
