Indian MPs blame own techies for Koshi deluge

RAJBIRAJ, Sept 7 - A team of parliamentarians of India's lower house-- Lok Sabha-- held carelessness on the part of Indian technicians for the breaching of embankment which resulted in the colossal damage of lives and property in Nepal and India by the Saptakoshi floods. After inspecting the camps for flood-displaced people of Nepal and India here at Rajbiraj, Bhardaha, Portaha and Koshi Barrage of Saptari district Sunday, the six-member team led by leader of Rastriya Janata Dal, Devendra Yadav, also demanded strong action proportionate to the damage against those guilty.

"As many people lost their lives and properties worth billions of rupees was devastated, action must be taken against the guilty in proportionate to the losses," Yadav said while talking to local journalists at Koshi Barrage. "Both the countries should form high level probe committees to bring the guilty to book," he said, while adding, "As soon as I reach (New) Delhi, I'll talk to Indian leaders regarding the matter."

The team had come here via bordering point of Jaynagar by land. During the inspection, the displaced Indians lamented over the indifference of Bihar state government during and after the floods. They also demanded creation of favorable environment for early return to their villages. Responding to what the flood victim Indians had to say, Yadav said that he would apprise the Indian government to bring back its 10,000 citizens who are taking shelter in Saptari district. Yadav also took exception to the snail-paced repair works of the damaged spurs and embankment. '
