What I saw in camps: Mahato

KATHMANDU, Sept 7 -
Minister for Commerce and Supplies returned to Kathmandu on Saturday from inspection visit to the camps of Koshi-affected people. He said he observed serious health problems in the camps. Health Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel also warned of outbreak of communicable diseases in the camps. Here is what Mahato saw in the camps:
More than 50 people have been crammed inside a room with capacity to house 10 There is no sanitation facility at all. Children unaffected by floods have been denied education as their schools are occupied by the displaced. The wet floor has been causing various ailments, especially pneumonia among children, diarrhea Only 1.5 million rupees has been sent so far to 21,000 displaced on the Saptari side of the river. It is inadequate to feed people for 19 days. The government must provide at least Rs 10 million to Saptari district immediately State of medical service is pathetic. There is no medicine except paracetamol tablets. People can not go to buy medicines prescribed by doctors At least one permanent health camp is required for a camp. A health camp with basic hospital facilities is required for displaced people. People should be dispersed and settled on government lands inside Charkoshe Jhadi, north of the Highway.
