Kathmandu, Jan. 3
Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Ganesh Shah said the new constitution would state on the ownership of local people in the natural resources. Speaking at an interaction on 'Karnali Region and Role of Alternative Energy' organised by Karnali Autonomous Council here today, Minister Shah opined that the government was ready to promote the technology of alternative energy for the Karnali region.
He further said it was difficult for the government to carry out the works due to foreign intervention, national water mafia and maneuver of big businessmen. On the occasion, Constituent Assembly Member Bharat Regmi said the Karnali region was neglected for years so the new constitution should stress on its autonomy.
Similarly, Central Member of the CPN-Maoist, Harka Bahadur Shahi said there were hurdles created to hinder the works of present government. The utility of the water resources should be in favour of people and the country, he added. Solar energy entrepreneur Yug Ratna Tamrakar opined that it was far better to develop and promote solar and wind energy and bio-fuel than setting up the thermal plant to address the present energy crisis.
